September 27, 2007It’s rare for an extant local band to get a hoot, but the Crack Pipes’ garage-soul catalog is ripe for the picking. Featured Review from AustinChronicle
September 06, 2007Austin’s Urgencies keep punk rock simple, the way it’s supposed to be. Al G.’s Joe Strummer vox might sound a tad tame on the new Chris “Frenchie” Smith-produced Manifesto, but live, the local fourpiece is balls-out rock & roll.read more at AustinChronicle.com

Featured Review from TheOnion
September 04, 2007Straddling the line between punk and glam—which (who knew?) apparently lies somewhere near gutter-rocking Minneapolis—Austin’s The Urgencies cough up some of the sweetest, stickiest rock songs in town, held together by spit, sweat, and shared influences ranging from The Clash to Hanoi Rocks. The band’s love of a good pop song is evident in the sing-along harmonies, even if its singers sound like they attended choir practice under Stiv Bators. While The Urgencies almost disbanded last year right after a filler-less debut, Desolation Chic, it rebounded in 2007 with replacement members and a new batch of material tentatively titled Manifesto, pieces of which will no doubt be previewed here. The band is currently on tour with Portland’s Soda Pop Kids, who lace their bubblegum punk with candy-coated drops of poison. Also playing: Tokyo Nites, A Few Nice Things.
