I started my career in entertainment early, dancing on pre-school lunch tables and performing stand-up and rock concerts at family gatherings.
My addiction to attention grew into a passion for entertainment, fueled by the rush of performing to an energetic crowd – to me, there’s nothing better than the rush of bringing a room to its feet.
I released my self-titled debut EP and first radio single: “Austin State of Mind” to the Texas Music Chart in fall 2010 – it broke the top 100 and landed at #92, an amazing experience that I’m hoping to duplicate with my next single coming out later this year
In spring 2010, I signed a publishing deal with Firstcom/Universal music. I spent the rest of that year recording songs for international TV and film placement with Austin producer Steven Doster (Nanci Griffith, Lyle Lovett and Double Trouble) and since their release those songs have been placed internationally on TV shows and radio commercials. “I’ve seen changes” has even made several appearances nationally on Aarons Sport’s Outdoors and Access Hollywood.
Today, I play original music with a Texas style that spans many genres, a unique blend of Southern Rock, Funk and Soul and a little bit of Espanol. I think Keith Urban likes to call it “Funktry” – I can’t do much better than that.
I don’t want to find success in the music industry based on which producer I work with and how much I spend to record and promote an album. What matters most to me is offering a product that represents me and my sound. I want fans to connect with me and my hope is that my success will be based on the integrity of the music.
I believe we live in a time of over-produced, auto-tuned, cookie cutter music, and I’m all about putting out original music that pleases the ears and the soul. “Toe Tapper” (released spring 2012) is loaded with infectious grooves, catchy hooks and killer harmonies. My fans tell me that’s exactly what their toes do when they listen.
Back in the Seventies, my grandfather had a band in Missouri called “The Collection.” I decided to honor his memory by naming my band the same thing and we perform as the house band on the Bling Johnson Show. Returning this fall 2014, Season 5 airs on KBVO-Austin Sundays at 10pm CST. The Bling Johnson Show is a half hour talk show with musical guests from Austin and all over Texas. Viewers enjoy a fun vibe of comedy, rock-n-roll, tattoos, Harleys, custom cars all with an entertainment perspective that can only be found in Austin! For more info on the show visit:BlingJohnson.com
The first single from the me new studio album, HiDef/LoFi “Going Nowhere Now ” is available for download on iTUNES. Both the EP and a live record are slated to release summer 2014. I continue to stay active in the Texas live music scene, performing weekly both solo acoustic and full band shows. Follow me on twitter @lucascookmusic and on Facebook.
