For two days, Austin becomes the center of the power-pop universe as the Wild Weekend Power Pop Festival serves up punchy testimonials to the enduring appeal of its namesake genre. The first recognized use of the term came in 1967 when Pete Townshend used it to describe the Who, but Friday’s headliner, Paul Collins, didn’t know this in 1974 when he formed the Nerves with Jack Lee and future Plimsoul Peter Case.
